Most forums allow you to include your website link in your signature file, so other forum users will click on your link in the hope of finding more about what you are selling or promoting. This is what is known as ‘targeted traffic’ as these people are interested in what you are promoting, so there is more chance they will click through to your site than a stranger who has no interest in your products.
Ezines are another way of providing a source of targeted traffic as they are usually about a particular niche. Different ezines have different conversion rates, so it is a good idea to try a few out before you spend a lot on advertising.
Another method of getting targeted traffic is by the use of reciprocal linking. This means that you find a webmaster with a site selling similar things to you but not the same, and asking him/her if they will exchange links so that you advertise each other’s site. Most people are willing to do this, as it brings in more traffic to their site too. An example of this would be a site selling games consoles exchanging links with a site selling games to play on the consoles. It provides a win/win situation.
If you can write a simple ebook, and give it away free, then this is a good way to get traffic to your site, as you place a link to your site inside the ebook, and when people read it, they will go to your site to find out more information. The better the information content of your book, the more likely people will pass it on to others to read and therefore you will be increasing your traffic.
A joint venture with someone can be a good way of getting targeted traffic as the other person may already have built up a good list of interested people, and if you promote to this list you stand a good chance of getting a lot of traffic back to your site.
If you want to get targeted traffic quickly, then the best way is to buy it through Pay Per Click (PPC). You decide the keywords that are going to drive the people to your site, so you can provide words that give them exactly what they want. This method tends to give you a high conversion rate.
By using some or all of these methods, you will gradually increase the amount of targeted traffic to your site and will then be making money. It may take time and patience, but eventually will be worthwhile.
